CHC/SEK celebrates the Week of the Young Child

Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas was built to improve the health of children and ensure that they are ready to learn.

From April 6 through 12, CHC/SEK will join health centers and other agencies across the U.S. to celebrate the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s (NAEYC) Week of the Young Child, which celebrates young children, their teachers, families and communities.

The CHC/SEK Pittsburg North clinic will host a Tasty Tuesday event with Crawford County Health Department and K-State Research and Extension from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9. Families are encouraged to stop by to learn about healthy snacks and receive activity kits. Other events throughout the community can be found on the Southeast Kansas Diaper Stock Facebook Page, a community partner of CHC/SEK.

“The Week of the Young Child is an opportunity to reach families outside the clinic room and inform families and our staff on ways to help children grow and learn,” said Julie Laverack, CHC/SEK patient education and support manager.

During the March 26 City of Pittsburg commission meeting, Mayor Stu Hite proclaimed April 6 through 12 as the Week of the Young Child. Laverack says it is exciting to see our whole community come together in such a unique way.

“Young childhood is a significant time in a child’s development,” Laverack said, adding, “It is great to recognize the importance of the early years in shaping a child’s learning and development.”
